I’ve been sitting here for the past 4 hours doing nothing. I guess I can finally understand this whole deal about TGIF amongst the working population.

Its just so hard to get anything done when a few more hours away, its freedom for 48 hours.

Its alive!

The fridge is working again!

And there is still the pool of tea!

Its like a desert here

November 27, 2007

The fucking office fridge broke down! So now everything is disgusting thanks to the boxes of tea packets in the fridge. I don’t know why they are in there, I don’t ask. But now there are like pools of tea in the fridge.

Why Singapore will fail.

November 26, 2007

Its so sad that our government in their ignorance is still trying to promote IT and all that nonsense. I mean, look at that video, I’m embarrassed to be working in the technology sector, even more so as a Singaporean.

WTB iPod video thingy

November 25, 2007

I’ve offically stopped listening to music on my iPod when I go to work. Nowadays its just podcasts and very little music.

I’ve always been a fan of talk radio. Its one of the things missing in Singapore. That said, I’m not that keen on mindless banter that sometimes comes on over the airwaves.

It is a great pity then that my 1st generation iPod Nano and my 3rd generation iPod can’t do video. Its like one of the hotest things now.

I’d want a device that does videos. That said, there are actually many devices. The PSP, the iPods, Creative PMPs and my venerabe PDA phone. But amongst all these the iPod touch and its elder brother, the iPhone stands out.

I’m not trying to be an Apple fanboy but they really are suited for it. Easy syncing with iTunes, a really decent if not excellent screen and a marvellous form factor. What more can you want?

Still I’d pass on the iPod touch. Its too expensive a solution for that small a capacity. Its after all a watered down iPhone. I really want to be able to bring my tunes and podcasts anywhere, answer calls, surf the net, and have my schedule and contacts when I need them.

Having something that looks gorgeous doesn’t hurt too.

For now, I guess I’d have to find some other solution that might involve my PDA or something.

Performance Issues

November 23, 2007

Yeah.

The day has been fraught with bug fixing as well as performance fixes. Its still pretty bad though I’m not really sure where the overhead is. Me thinks LayoutPanels suck at performance and hence it fucks up the databinding. Or it could be attaching to an MDF file. Who knows.

Anyways, I figure the fix should be in threading the databinding portion of the app. This I guess I’d have to get to doing in the next iteration of it. Also, inspectors have to be integrated into the form itself instead of being in dialogs. Kills the whole look of the app.

Apart from this, Adding of Products is done as well as fixes for the nasty mistake in regenerating GUIDs for the database. So all that’s left to do would be the Adding of companies to the product as well as new companies.

All details are in!

November 22, 2007

Yeah its all here!

So its another productive day at work. Now the product details are all listed including the manufacturers and importers. That being said, the code for adding and deleting of the ingredients to a product has been fully implemented. Also, ability to add new ingredients not found in the database has also been added.

Removal of a company from the product is there. Out of all the milestones to complete for today, I guess the only one I’m lacking is the Add company UI as well as the add product. From where I am, I think the add product UI will be reused. As for the add company UI, I’d probably reuse the add ingredient UI.

The app is taking a huge performance hit now because of its visual elements. I’m trying to reduce the number of components that use the layout panel. Some ideas I have now is to do very late databinding to prevent the constant need to databind items. On top of that, its to treat every element as invisible until its been fully loaded than toggle on the visible state.

Tomorrow’s todo is pretty much the leftover of today. Been using backpack to keep track of stuff. Might wanna write a .Net CF client for it.

HAHA!

November 22, 2007

I brought my own chopsticks today!

Its almost there.

November 21, 2007

Its looking more and more like address book

The UI is more or less confirmed. Its gonna look like the Address Book application for the Mac. I think its pretty clean and would most probably let the people at Nishino enjoy the usage of it.

I gotten the ingredients to list downwards by heavily tweaking the look of the datagrid.

Tomorrow’s todo will probably include adding the code for the adding/deleting of ingredients, importers and manufacturers. Might have to write new CSLA.Net classes for that. Also, tomorrow will probably have to be the day I add the code to add Products to the whole thing. Most probably do it on a “3Dish Popup window” to give the idea that its something new to be added.

That should be all…

THERE IS NO SPOON!

November 21, 2007

Bought my cup noodles, sandwich and Coke lime from the Cheers down at the MRT station only to find out that the office has no eating utensils of any kind.

I figured there would be at least spoons cause the accountant lady makes coffee every time she comes in but THERE ARE NO SPOONS in the office whatsoever. This despite searching all the drawers and what not.

Had to improvise using a pen wrapped in zip lock.
